 Some of our best memories involve the water, whether fishing or boating! Alaska has a firm hold on our hearts and minds as we love the sense of wilderness and freedom. Fishing in Alaska is not waiting for the fish to bite, it is truly CATCHING almost every time you dip your fishing line in the water- whether stream or ocean! We've destroyed a lot of fishing tackle, destroyed fishing reels that were too light for the size fish we were catching, lost fishing lures, learned from all the fishing reports others shared with us, and learned what fishing vests work and what fishing tackle to put in that fishing vest. But no matter what happened each day, we were treated with fresh caught salmon cooked in the outdoors. That outdoor cooking added to the flavor of the wild salmon! |

 Another treat we experienced with water was camping overnight on our boat, anchored offshore so we didn't get surprised by a bear. In a tucked away bay, we saw whales turning on their side to look at us and then gently rolling in the water, enjoyed a hot mug of coffee while watching an eagle swoop down and snatch a salmon from the water (another form of salmon fishing) and enjoyed the curiosity of the sea otters who were checking out the new "neighbors" in their bay. If you want to experience those wonders, you too can camp simply and safely on your small boat (ours is a 22' aluminum skiff).
